About Breeann

Breeann is our sweet princess girl. She is now getting to the stage where she like to play, grab, reach for things. The only way to keep her from crying during her cares is giving her something (anything!) to play with. She's such a strong spirit. What this little girl has been through in her life is incredible. She's a fighter. Here's a bit of her story.

On Dec. 18 (a week after I graduated nursing school and the day Ayden had ear tubes placed) we got a call from a DCFS caseworker telling us about a 3 month old baby girl that has a lot of medical issues. She wasn't sure what exactly, but if we agreed to at least consider it, she'd get us clearance to talk to hospital staff. So that's what happened. It totally threw me off when the nurse was giving me a run down of this baby. On Thurs., the 20th, we got to go see her for the first time, but still had not officially decided. After seeing her, Jared was sure. I still was uncertain, until I went to the temple of the 21st. We brought her home on Jan. 14th. We were totally not thinking adoption and we were planning on sending her back to her bio. parents eventually. But as time went on, her bios. mentioned it more and more. Like the second week of March, Bree's amazing bio. mom, called and asked us to for sure adopt her. Alyssa (bio. mom) and Christian (bio. dad) made the most selfless sacrifice. They knew that Bree's medical problems were a lot and that they would not be in a position to handle it for a long time. So they lovingly allowed us to become Bree's parents.

Now! What is all this medical history I'm talking about...
When Breeann was born, her intestines were on the outside of her body (gastroschisis). As a result, the dr. had to remove over 90% of them. Breeann does take a very, very limited amount of nutrients in her mouth. However, majority of her nutrients comes from a IV solution (called TPN) through a permanent IV line in her chest (called broviac). She does have a feeding tube as well. She has formula going through this continually as well as it's how we giver majority of her medications. She has had a number of surgeries already in her little life time. Our goal is to get her taking most of her nutrients through her mouth and/ or feeding tube. If she can pull through and do that... then we can avoid a intestine transplant and she can hopefully lead a fairly normal life.

As always, please feel free to ask any questions, talk to us about it. We're really a pretty open book family :)
